Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic, talented individual, with a strong background in cell and gene therapy, to join Ori Biotech’s bioprocessing team as a Principal Scientist. The postholder will be heavily involved in the planning, execution, analysis and interpretation of different process and product development related experiments, specifically focusing on the characterisation and optimisation of the Ori platform. The successful candidate will also be involved in overseeing, managing and mentoring of the junior staff members who assist with the execution and documentation of this research activity. In addition, the postholder will be required to report the output of research activities to key stakeholders such as the Senior Management Team and Ori’s Scientific Advisory Board.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for identifying, developing and managing a testing strategy to characterise and optimise the Ori platform for different types of processes, reporting on project deliverables to the wider team.
  • Project ownership, managing the timeline of activities and ensuring sufficient resource is available and allocated to achieve the project deliverables.
  • Analyse, manage and interpret data, preparing reports and presentations for both internal and external use.
  • Provide on-site support for both internal testing and for external partners.
  • Review experimental work, data and reports produced within the team to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assess integration of existing and new technologies to the Ori platform with external partners.
  • Participate in the Tech Transfer and Product Care team activities.
  • Provide support and feedback for the Product Development activities.
  • Work with a range of cell-based techniques and engineering techniques including flow cytometry.
  • Development and maintenance of SOPs and regulatory documentations.
  • Completion of laboratory e-notebooks in accordance with SOPs & good documentation practice.
  • Line managing the junior members of the team.


  • Minimum three years of work experience in a cell or gene therapy company.
  • Extensive experience in a range of cell processing technologies.
  • Cell culture experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in relevant analytical techniques.
  • Passionate about wanting to make a difference in patient outcomes.
  • Proven ability to engage constructively with colleagues at all levels across different departments to deliver objectives.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately with a strong focus on attention to detail.


  • PhD, MSc or BSc within a Life Science or Biochemical Engineering subject.
