Job Description

Ori is looking for an experienced, highly skilled senior mechanical designer to join our growing team, playing a key role in designing, modelling and defining Ori’s manufacturing platform.  This role is critical in enabling Ori to take a technology to market which is designed to increase the availability and affordability of Cell and Gene Therapies to treat disease.

This role will report into the senior manager of hardware and interact with key stakeholders across the organization.  You will support the development and growth of the mechanical design team which is critical to the success of Ori’s products and company.

This role is hybrid: Cambridge, UK and remote.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing innovative mechanical design solutions alongside the mechanical engineering and broader product development teams.
  • Responsible for producing, controlling and maintaining all required design documentation, including: Family Trees, 3D Models, General Assembly Drawings, Detailed Drawings and Bills of Materials.
  • Responsible for ensuring that design data is correctly stored within Ori’s PLM system to enable effective and timely handover of design to Ori’s manufacturing partners.
  • Leading and/or participating in design reviews to ensure that solutions satisfy design requirements.
  • Ensuring design deliverables meet the required standards of accuracy and quality, that all drawings are appropriately reviewed and verified.
  • Collaborating widely across teams to ensure that designs are delivered to the highest standard throughout the product development process.


What would convince us:

  • In depth knowledge and experience of SolidWorks 3D CAD, Vault and Manage (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in the mechanical design of complicated electro-mechanical systems (preferably with a consumable element).
  • Proven experience in taking designs from prototype through to established manufactured product.
  • Experience in design for manufacture and assembly including low to high volume manufacturing processes e.g. injection molding, CNC machining and sheet metal.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry with design controls e.g. medical, nuclear, aviation.
  • Passionate about wanting to make a difference in patient outcomes.
